Franck Haise was given a hostile welcome by Nice ultras on Sunday, as his Rennes side won 4-0 in Ligue 1’s matchday 25.

According to L'Équipe, a provocative banner was unfurled in the home end, carrying a crude message that seeing balls was one thing and having them was better. It referenced remarks he had made to the outlet after Nice’s fraught return from Lorient.

Haise left Nice at the end of December after several turbulent weeks. He returned with Rennes for this fixture.

Earlier this week he offered a partial mea culpa in a press conference, saying he had wasted energy on matters that were not his responsibility while he was in charge at Nice.

The reaction in the stands suggested many among Nice’s ultras have not forgotten his time at the club.
