Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope (33) has triggered a one-year extension to his current contract, securing his future at St James’ Park until at least the summer of 2027, Sky Sports has reported.
The 33-year-old England international, who has been in superb form this season, activated the additional year as part of a clause rewarding his role in helping Newcastle qualify for last season’s Champions League. Although the club has yet to make an official announcement, sources close to the player confirmed the deal has been finalised.
Pope, a commanding presence between the posts since joining from Burnley in 2022, has become a cornerstone of Eddie Howe’s defensive setup, combining shot-stopping brilliance with composure and leadership. His performances have been key to Newcastle’s strong start to the campaign, as they continue to balance domestic ambitions with European competition.
Speaking on Friday, Howe praised Pope’s consistency and suggested further contract talks were imminent for several first-team regulars. “Ross Wilson’s first task will be to sit down with players like Sandro Tonali, Sven Botman, and Tino Livramento,” said Howe.
