Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt believes that Chelsea could sign a ‘top, top player’ from his former club.

Butt has never been shy of giving an opinion and has always been very passionate about his former club, just like he was playing for them on the pitch as well.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea have THREE Premier League centre midfielders on the radar – two they would LOVE to sign!

Since retiring from the game, Butt has been doing bits and pieces of punditry and interviews, speaking on current United, and of course, things have been far from rosy there in recent times.

United did win last night though and are now level on points with Chelsea in the Premier League after fifteen matches played so far.

Chelsea have not won in their last three Premier League games, playing out a dull 0-0 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday, which followed a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United last week. This has allowed other clubs around them to catch up and close the gaps.

They need to step things back up again if they are to stay in the race for top four even, with plenty of other clubs now very close to them in the table.

Mainoo to Chelsea?

Meanwhile, Butt thinks Chelsea could end up signing Kobbie Mainoo, who he thinks has been treated very badly by United.

In words cited on X, Butt said:

“[Kobbie] Mainoo is a top, top, top player that we are f****** up. For his football career he has to leave United, he’s lost 18 months of development. I hope he goes abroad because it’s embarrassing if he goes to Chelsea, which could happen.

“They might go and get him because they are putting together a very good, young squad and keep buying young players.”
