Germany’s Niclas Füllkrug reached a historic milestone following his goal for his side against Luis Enrique’s Spain.
Germany just had to win their game against Spain to stay in the competition and while Alvaro Morata’s goal gave the impression that they were going out, it was a Fullkrug goal that helped Die Mannschaft pick up a vital point from the game.
As per Opta though, it isn’t just the one point that Fullkrug’s goal stood for. It is Germany’s first goal in a FIFA World Cup since Mario Gotze scored for them against Argentina in the World Cup final of 2014.
Currently at Werder Bremen, Fullkrug recently became the oldest German player in 20 years to make his debut for the national side at the age of 29. He boasts a rather goalscoring tally for Werder Bremen and has now scored twice for Die Mannschaft as well while playing three games only.
