Nico Gonzalez insists Juventus have a ‘clear goal’ this season and is delighted by Pep Guardiola’s vision of the Bianconeri’s future: ‘If Pep says so…’

Juventus secured a 1-0 win over domestic rivals Inter on Sunday, reaching Lazio in fourth place in the standings.

The Nerazzurri created the best opportunities in the first half, but Juventus reacted after the break.

“We played a great match, a great first half, and in the second half, we understood the game and wanted the ball,” the Argentinean said at a press conference attended by Football Italia.

“Today’s victory is very important for us, and we must keep going, not let our guard down, and continue on this path. Today, we showed what we are capable of.

“We are young, but we are all mature men. Everyone knows what they have to do. As you said, today we showed it in a great match against a great team like Inter, with many good players. We have to keep fighting like we did today.”

Thiago Motta paid for a dinner for the whole team last week in an attempt to further unite the group.

“It would be nice to go out for dinner again tomorrow, right?” Nico joked.

“The dinner was organized to be together, to stay united. But the real team spirit is built on the field, where we must prove ourselves and give everything to our teammates.”

Juventus have now won four consecutive games across all competitions. It had never happened under Motta. Does this mean they can even get back into the title race?

“I can’t think about Napoli, I just can’t. I’m only thinking about PSV because we want to reach the Round of 16, but we have to fight, battle, and prove that we want to get there,” said the Argentinean.

“It will be very difficult. We have to keep going like this. Working, fighting, and improving every day for the team. Every day, we need to bring a positive result.”

Juventus will visit PSV in the second leg of the Champions League knockout playoff on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola said after meeting the Old Lady in the Champions League in December that the “future belongs to Juventus”, and Nico hopes the Spanish tactician was right.

“If Pep says so, and he’s one of the best in the world,” he argued.

“It would be amazing. That’s Juventus’ vision, Thiago’s vision, and ours as a group. However, we can’t think too far ahead. We focus on each day as it comes because that’s what matters. We can’t look too far into the future.

“Our goal is clear: we want to be in the Champions League next year as well. That’s the objective,” continued the Argentinean winger.

“We want to play in the Round of 16. But nothing more than that. We just need to keep going on this path and keep moving forward. I don’t know how many games it’s been since we last lost, but we must keep going like this. Staying united has brought us a positive result.”
