Nicolas de Tavernost, director general of LFP Media, is set to become chair of Rennes’ board. The appointment is due to be ratified at a board meeting on Tuesday 26 May.

The move was first reported by Ouest-France. De Tavernost is leaving LFP Media, the LFP’s commercial arm, after one year. Current chair Guillaume Cerrutti said in late March he would depart at season’s end, five months after succeeding Alban Gréget.

De Tavernost will represent the Pinault family, the club’s shareholder, and work alongside executive president Arnaud Pouille.

The position has changed hands regularly. Jacques Delanoë held it from November 2017 to May 2024, then Gréget took over before making way last autumn for Cerutti.

Typically, the board chair guides policy and represents the club, while the executive president runs daily and sporting matters. Boundaries can blur, and Gréget was involved in appointing Frederic Massara as sporting director after Florian Maurice in June 2024, a decision imposed on former president Olivier Cloarec.

De Tavernost previously led M6, former owner of Bordeaux, and, as LFP Media chief, launched the Ligue 1+ platform. How he approaches the role and works with Pouille will be watched at a club once again in Europe.
