Nicolas de Tavernost has told clubs he is considering quitting as head of LFP Media, sharpening divisions over Ligue 1+ and beIN. According to L'Équipe, several presidents on Wednesday night saw it as the latest chapter in tensions with PSG and the broadcaster.

He emailed clubs after the LFP board meeting, saying the game needs unity and that its absence had made him reflect on his role. Some in Ligue 1 called it a whim or a bluff, others felt he had been slighted after being outmanoeuvred.

A board member said beIN had dented trust after a Ligue 1+ rights move and that not everyone was pulling together, adding it would be a pity if he left.

Many saw Nasser Al-Khelaïfi in his sights, though few named him. One Ligue 2 president urged the LFP to break the inner circle, cut Al-Khelaïfi’s access and even remove Vincent Labrune, arguing problems would persist while Labrune stayed.

There was a heated exchange between Al-Khelaïfi and de Tavernost at Parc des Princes during PSG’s 5-0 win over OM on Sunday. At the Ligue 1 college vote to acquire World Cup rights, PSG were not represented, so unanimity meant 17 clubs.

Wednesday’s board was to confirm the loss of World Cup rights and weigh action against FIFA, with another meeting due on Thursday after legal review. Victoriano Melero argued the loss mattered less because the Ligue 1+ business plan did not include the tournament, after which de Tavernost indicated he was no longer in a position to continue. The Senate warned about the very survival of Ligue 1 and an observer asked whether the Federation should now intervene. The next few days look tense.
