“As a Leeds United fan painting on the side of Elland Road is as good as it gets,” Nicolas Dixon said. The fan artist is close to completing his relocated stadium mural.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the club recommissioned him to move his tribute to the 1972 FA Cup winners after plans for a new West Stand were approved in January.

The original wall is being turned into a new security hub, and outward kiosk windows meant the artwork had to be shifted and repainted.

Now sited at the north east corner, the piece celebrates the 1972 triumph and features Don Revie, trainer and coach Les Cocker and a host of players.

Dixon first hand painted the abstract in 2022 for the Leeds United Supporters Trust, using portraits by Paul Trevillion to mark 50 years since that success.

“I had to reconfigure the players and totally redesign it as the kiosk was right on Don Revie’s head,” he explained.

He expects to add the finishing touches this weekend, and the refreshed mural is already visible to passers-by. Work at Elland Road continues before RB Leipzig visit for a pre-season friendly on August 8.

The wider redevelopment is planned to increase capacity by over 15,000, from 37,645 to 53,000.
