Nicolás Otamendi returned to Benfica’s squad against Vitória SC but was left among the substitutes as José Mourinho’s side won 3-0.

Record writes that the Argentinian centre-back, absent at Arouca through injury, appeared ready to play but felt discomfort during a final fitness test on Friday, 20 March.

He was still named on the bench and remains available for Argentina duty. With defensive options short, Enzo Barrenechea was deployed in his place.

Otamendi has not featured since going off injured during the Clássico against Porto in the 25th round of the Liga Portugal Betclic.

This season he has made 43 appearances for Benfica, 24 in the league, 14 in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça, totalling 3,809 minutes and three goals. He is valued at one million euros.
