Corinthians’ goalkeeping lineage is resonating in the women’s game, with Nicole Ramos praising 18-year-old Ana Morganti, who is with Brazil at the Under-20 World Cup. Ramos spoke after Monday’s win over Cruzeiro. According to Meu Timao, she hailed the teenager’s talent and temperament.
The senior keeper said she has huge affection for Morganti, often telling her that, at the same age, she was far behind where the youngster is now. She described Morganti as a leading prospect for both the national side and Corinthians.
Ramos also underlined the standards set at a high-performance club, pointing to Morganti’s daily work ethic at the training ground. She believes that commitment is laying firm foundations and that the goalkeeper will reap the rewards in time.
Promoted at the start of this year, Morganti is part of Corinthians’ senior squad. At the World Cup she has yet to feature, remaining an option for coach Camilla Orlando.
Forward Dulce Maria, also from Corinthians, has been called up too. She has played both of Brazil’s games so far, providing an assist in Tuesday’s win over Canada.
Brazil face England on Friday 11, with kick-off at 10:00 Brasília time. The top two in the group advance to the last 16.
Back at the club, Emily Lima’s side now focus on the national knockout semi-finals against Bahia. The first leg is on 15 at Arena Fonte Nova, with the return on 21 at Neo Química Arena.
