Nigeria national team coach Eric Chelle has made an honest admission about his team’s chances for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles, needing as many points as they can to boost their qualification hopes, beat Rwanda in Uyo last Saturday before settling for a share of the spoils with South Africa on Tuesday.

As a result, Nigeria trail group leaders Bafana Bafana with six points and second-placed Benin with three points as they occupy position three on the table.

With two games remaining, Chelle is confident his charges will up the ante but admits they are in a precarious situation after failing to claim six points in the recent matches.

“We are professionals and it’s two games [remaining], for sure these players want to win these two games. Now actually it’s difficult for us at the moment because we wanted to win [the past two games],” he said.

“I think we did everything. So, in one month we have the two remaining games, lots of things can happen in one month and for sure lots of things about the points, about the teams, about everything.

The former Mali international continued: “So, we just need to analyze this game once again and after that we will see the two last games.

Nigeria will face Lesotho on Monday, 06 October, before locking horns with Benin in their penultimate match a week later.
