According to L'Équipe, Nigeria’s players threatened on Thursday to boycott training, and could also refuse to travel from Fès to Marrakech for Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria at 17:00.

The dispute centres on bonuses agreed before the tournament but still unpaid, with Victor Osimhen and team-mates pressing for what was promised.

On the pitch they have impressed, topping Group C with wins over Tanzania 2-1, Tunisia 3-2 and Uganda 3-1, then sweeping past Mozambique 4-0 in the last 16.

Runners-up in the previous edition after losing 1-2 to hosts Ivory Coast early 2024, the Super Eagles now risk disrupting their campaign amid a standoff with federation officials.

They hope a solution will be found before the match. A similar boycott of a training session occurred in November 2025, two days before facing Gabon in the African World Cup qualifying play-off semi-finals, and the players prevailed then.
