Manchester City are currently assessing the abilities of a rising name from Nigerian football during a trial period at the City Football Academy.

The Premier League giants have a well-documented reputation for scouting and nurturing emerging talents from across the world, and their latest triallist reflects that continued approach.

It marks another example of the club’s wider global scouting strategy under the City Football Group umbrella, which has in recent years delivered a number of promising youth signings such as Divine Mukasa, Claudio Echeverri, and Vitor Reis.

Now, Etihad Stadium decision-makers are believed to be taking a similar view of the latest triallist from Nigeria, as they continue to identify technically gifted forwards who can adapt to the demands of the English game.

According to the information of Africa Foot, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Nigerian youngster Angelo Agbejoye is currently on trial at Manchester City following on from similar trial periods with AIK Stockholm and Hannover 96 earlier in the year.

The teenage winger is reportedly currently representing Nigerian side Grassrunners FCwith the 18-year-old’s ‘technique and skills’ said to have attracted the attention of scouts at the Etihad Stadium and their coaches.

As to why AIK Stockholm were unable to sign Agbejoye in May following trials with both their Under-19 side and first team, it is claimed that such a decision came as a result of the player not turning 18 years of age until last August.

AIK recruitment manager, Fredrik Wisur Hansen told Fotbollskanalen that the Nigerian talent has the “X-factor” before explaining, “A nose for goal, good speed, good finishing ability with his left foot. There is something in him and he will have the opportunity to grow into this.”

Should Manchester City choose to take the next step following his trial, Agbejoye could become the latest addition to the club’s growing pool of youth internationals and academy hopefuls.

The City Football Academy often provides such players with structured development pathways, either through the Elite Development Squad or via strategic loans across Europe.

Given Manchester City’s recent activity in South America, Africa, and Scandinavia, it would not be surprising to see the club continue pursuing these emerging markets for players who fit their technical and tactical model.

Even if Agbejoye is not immediately signed, his presence in Manchester highlights the club’s increasing commitment to discovering talent from non-traditional regions before their breakout into senior European football.
