Super Eagles hope to seal spot in Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages

Nigeria will look to secure progress through to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations as they face their toughest test in Group C this evening. The Super Eagles are hoping to follow Egypt in booking a knockout berth at the latest AFCON after a nervy opening 2-1 win over Tanzania in which Ademola Lookman netted the winning goal quickly after Eric Chelle’s side had conceded a shock equaliser.

They now meet a Tunisia outfit who sit top of the group and are also aiming to guarantee their progress after brushing aside Uganda 3-1 thanks to a brace from Elias Achouri. The Carthage Eagles are not generally considered among the top contenders for this tournament but have plenty of players capable of helping them make a deep run in Morocco. Tunisia beat Nigeria in their last AFCON meeting in 2022 courtesy of a goal from Youssef Msakni that saw them reach the quarter-finals.
