Willy Gnonto’s Fiorentina debut turned sour as Torino came from behind to win. By 10.30pm on Sunday the club had sacked head coach Fabio Grosso after three defeats in three Serie A matches, despite a Coppa Italia win.

Gnonto was introduced at half-time for Real Madrid loanee Franco Mastantuono. Fiorentina soon led, but Rolando Mandragora levelled on 73 minutes and Che Adams struck on 82 to win it for Torino. According to Leedsunited.news, Gnonto has joined on loan in a deal that could reach about £20m if Fiorentina activate the permanent clause.

Since the summer of 2023, Gnonto had one club manager in Daniel Farke. On moving to Florence he was greeted by World Cup winner Fabio Grosso, fresh from two productive years at Sassuolo with a win rate above 50%. Even so, Grosso lasted only four matches.

A 4-0 defeat at Roma piled on the pressure, then a dismal 3-0 home loss to Frosinone made things worse. The weekend result came amid a bleak start to the league campaign.

Gnonto now faces a reset under the next coach. A clean slate might suit him, although a defensive appointment could limit his chances. For now, his opening appearance and the swift upheaval underline a turbulent start in Florence.
