Rangers are discussing bringing Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt to the club on loan next month, according to the Daily Mail.

The Light Blues wanted Gelhardt last summer and will now look to complete a temporary deal with finances likely to force technical director Nils Koppen to return to the loan market.

Gelhardt is at the bottom of the pecking order under Leeds manager Daniel Farke, and a move to Rangers on loan for the rest of the season could appeal to him.

However, the Scottish Premiership club face competition for the 22-year-old. Queen Park Rangers, Portsmouth, Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle and Preston North End have all been linked with him.

Rangers want to bolster their attacking ranks as they look to finish the campaign strongly, and the Leeds forward fits the bill despite featuring in just two English Championship games this season.

The Gers also want to land new defenders, a midfielder and a winger, and getting the right players could help turn their stuttering campaign around.

Gelhardt needs regular playing chances to fulfil his huge potential, and Rangers could be willing to offer him an opportunity to get his career back on track.

He notched two goals and two assists in the Premier League in 2021-22 and ended the following campaign with five goals and six assists in the Championship.

His loan spell at Sunderland last term did not work out, and a move to Scotland to link up with Rangers could get the Leeds youngster firing on all cylinders again.
