Two first-half sendings off led to Chivas suffering a narrow defeat in the Clásico Tapatío against Atlas on Saturday.
Scorer: Rocha PEN 27′
The night started as it would continue for the hosts at the Estadio Akron, with Hiram Mier receiving a straight red card in the 14th minute for dangerous play after inadvertently kicking Julio Furch in the face.
Atlas made quick use of their numerical advantage when Aldo Rocha dispatched a Panenka penalty past Raúl Gudiño in the Flock net.
Chivas then endured a second dismissal when Cristian Calderón was show a second yellow card on the half-hour mark, just eight minutes after his initial caution.
Naturally La Academia would dominate possession and territory for the remainder of the game, but could not add to their tally against their Guadalajara neighbours.
The victory saw Atlas move top – at least temporarily – of the Apertura table, level on points with América but with a better goal difference and an extra game played.
Defeat for Chivas leaves them languishing in 11th, and raises further questions about their decision to sack Víctor Manuel Vucetich a fortnight ago.
