FC Bayern are not planning any transfers in the winter. Why the bosses are deliberately avoiding additions and departures despite a thin squad
FC Bayern is traditionally not a club for hectic actionism in the winter – and that’s exactly what those in charge are sticking to this year. While there was intense discussion about the small squad size just a few weeks ago, the doubts have largely subsided in the meantime. The sporting development proves the Munich team right – and takes any explosiveness out of the winter transfer window
The starting position before the season was viewed critically, with many experts considering the squad to be too small to dance at three weddings in the long term. These concerns have all but evaporated in view of the season to date. The German record champions have clearly distanced themselves from the competition in the Bundesliga and lead the table by ten points. They are back in the running in the DFB Cup for the first time in years, and only one point from the last two games in the Champions League is needed to qualify directly for the round of 16
Even if a certain tiredness has been noticeable of late, those responsible are positive about the overall situation. According to SPORT1, it has been clearly decided internally that there will be no transfers in January – neither on the incoming nor outgoing side. This decision is above all an expression of confidence in the current structure and the work of Vincent Kompany

There are several reasons why Bayern have decided not to bring in new players. Hiroki Ito, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala are three long-term injured players who will be returning in the coming weeks and are being treated as new signings at Säbener Straße. Their return will add depth to the squad without having to go to the market
Added to this is the development of home-grown talent Lennart Karl, who has not only established himself in recent weeks but has even become a regular. This internal solution also takes pressure off potential transfer considerations
The clear „sales ban“ in the winter is particularly noteworthy. Despite potential departure candidates such as Raphael Guerreiro, Sacha Boey, Minjae Kim or Leon Goretzka, Bayern do not want to open up any construction sites. The message is clear: the squad will remain together so as not to jeopardise the ambitious goals in all competitions
FC Bayern is therefore deliberately focusing on continuity rather than correction, an approach that only works if the sporting performances are right – and that is exactly what they have been so far.
