No chance for BVB and Co.? Matthäus expects more Bayern transfers | OneFootball

FC Bayern dominated nearly everything domestically last season. If Lothar Matthäus is to be believed, the German record champions will be even stronger in the 2026–27 season. The Sky expert believes the Munich team is in excellent shape despite the World Cup this summer—and also expects further transfers.

With the league title, the DFB Cup, and an impressive Bundesliga season, FC Bayern has already set the bar very high. They scored 122 league goals—a new record—and finished 16 points ahead of second-place Borussia Dortmund.

Lothar Matthäus sees many reasons to believe that Vincent Kompany’s team can not only maintain this level of performance but even raise the bar.

“Bayern will be even stronger.”

In his column for Sky, the all-time leading German international writes: “I think Bayern Munich will have a team next season that’s even stronger than last season’s squad.”

The fact that many World Cup participants are joining preseason training late does not worry Matthäus. Although FC Bayern began preseason training on Monday without many of its national team players, the 65-year-old does not see this as a competitive disadvantage.

“Of course, it’s always best for a coach to have his team together as early as possible, but the fact that players return later after a tournament is nothing new and, in my view, isn’t a disadvantage compared to the competition,” Matthäus explained.

Photo: IMAGO On the transfer market, the Munich club has already signed two high-profile newcomers in Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari. Nevertheless, Matthäus expects that squad planning is not yet complete.

The TV expert also takes the ongoing speculation surrounding Michael Olise in stride. “I’m quite relaxed about it. Uli Hoeneß already took a clear stance a few weeks ago and stated that the player is staying at Bayern and that Real Madrid can save themselves the trouble of calling. Olise has a contract in Munich; Bayern doesn’t want to sell him,” said Matthäus.

At the same time, the former Bayern captain is convinced that the club’s leadership will continue to strengthen the roster. “The club wants to be successful and has already made two very good signings, and I’m convinced that the planning isn’t over yet.”

If Matthäus’s assessment proves correct, rivals such as Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are likely to face an enormously difficult task once again in the coming season. FC Bayern is already among the top favorites to win the championship—and could even boost its quality even further by the end of the transfer window.
