Desire Doue has been benched for two games in a row as the competition in PSG’s attack hots up – but nobody is worried.

L’Equipe have put out an interesting article today covering the status of Desire Doue.
For every star that forces their way into the team at the Parc des Princes, another must drop out. In the last couple of games Ferran Torres has played, and Doue has been the one to miss out.
That doesn’t mean they’re doing badly or should have long term concerns – it’s just that someone else is doing even better. In fact, that’s the whole point of having such a deep and strong squad.

The French paper say the star attacker is going through a “less fortunate period” and has dropped to fourth choice, for now. This isn’t causing any concern internally however. The evidence of last season is that manager Luis Enrique loves Doue and it would be very surprising for this state of affairs to stick long term.
“His two benchings last week are purely circumstantial, and are in no way a demotion,” the piece makes clear.
As always, Luis Enrique is managing the minutes his stars play in the early stages, and when we get to the business end of the Champions League Doue is likely to be slotted right back in.
Achraf Hakimi getting injured is bad – the good news is that it sounds about as minor as it could be. We’re still not sure about him playing on Sunday, however.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony is getting closer, and certain players (especially at PSG) are getting asked about it all the time.
