No Didier Deschamps tribute planned as Zinédine Zidane prepares for debut on French soil | OneFootball

France’s Zinédine Zidane era is well and truly underway. The former Real Madrid manager has presided over his first two games as manager of Les Bleus, however, both have come away from home. The first was a 1-0 win against Turkiye, and the winning start to France’s UEFA Nations League campaign continued in Brussels on Monday night with another 1-0 win, this time against Belgium and courtesy of some magic from Michael Olise.

On Friday night, France will face Italy in what will be Zidane’s first game as manager of Les Bleus on French soil. The game will take place in the Stade de France.

RMC Sport understands that no homage will be paid to Zidane’s predecessor, Didier Deschamps, who stood down after this summer’s FIFA World Cup. He was the longest-serving manager in Les Bleus’ history and won the World Cup back in 2018. The FFF says that it is a question of “timing” and that the focus will instead by strongly on Zidane’s return.

No homage is planned for the game against Belgium later in the international break either, nor for the November international break. RMC Sport understands that, if there is to be any homage at all paid to Deschamps, it would most likely come in the international break in the Spring.
