Jamal Musiala played more than just a decent Bundesliga game in the 3-2 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt. The 22-year-old made a statement – both athletically and mentally. After months of rehab, patience and development work, the FC Bayern attacking star was back in the starting eleven at the Allianz Arena for the first time. A moment that had a special meaning for him

„My first start in the Allianz Arena,“ said Musiala after the game, adding with satisfaction: „I’m happy with today, I ran a lot, did some good things.“ These were words that conveyed both relief and ambition. The international was always looking to get deep, demanding balls and looking for the finish. He still lacked the final naturalness in some situations, but his presence was unmistakable

Musiala has been a permanent member of the Munich squad for just over a month now, making nine appearances. He had previously only been in the starting eleven for the Champions League match in Eindhoven. His comeback to the Bundesliga starting line-up at the Allianz Arena was therefore an important step – also for his own self-confidence

„If I play badly, I play badly“

Despite his long injury break, Musiala does not want to claim a special role for himself. His words after the final whistle sounded remarkably clear. „When I’m on the pitch, I have to deliver. If I play badly, I play badly,“ he made unmistakably clear. For him, there are „no excuses“. The crucial thing is to „take steps forward game by game“

After breaking his fibula at the Club World Cup last summer, Musiala fought his way back bit by bit. It’s not just about fitness, but also about the mind. „Not thinking about the foot“ is a key point for him. Subconsciously, the injury still plays a role sometimes, but the focus is clearly on progress and stability

The attacking player is doing additional sessions to further strengthen his leg. „I’m doing a lot of extra things,“ he explained. He is happy with his development: „I’m happy with the steps.“ The long forced break has also taught him something important: „The injury has taught me patience.“

World Championships firmly in sight

Musiala has long been thinking ahead. When asked whether he wants to be available for the German national team again for the upcoming international matches in March, he answered with a clear „yes“. He did not indicate any doubts about his ability to play

The Bayern star also formulated a self-confident goal with a view to the World Cup in the summer. He expects to be in top shape then, a claim that suits his nature – and FC Bayern’s sporting aspirations.
