Minjae Kim was once signed by FC Bayern as a „defensive anchor“. But in the summer of 2026, there are many indications that the German record champions and the South Korean international could part ways. After a phase of fluctuating performances and increasing competition in defence, the 29-year-old is under scrutiny
As the portal Fussballdaten reports, FC Bayern is preparing for a comprehensive squad rebuild in the summer. The focus is on financial sustainability and a targeted rejuvenation of the team. The hierarchy in defence has shifted noticeably of late. Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano are set under Vincent Kompany. Kim, on the other hand, has increasingly lost his regular place and found himself more and more often in a supplementary role

Although those responsible continue to publicly emphasize Kim’s professionalism and commitment, according to information from Fussballdaten, the club is prepared to consider offers. The central defender is therefore not being actively offered, but the club is signaling its openness – provided the financial dimension is right
With a rumored gross annual salary of up to 17 million euros, Kim is one of the top earners at the Isar. In a phase in which Munich is increasingly focusing on young, development-capable players, it is increasingly considered an economic luxury to keep a highly paid backup player in this category
The historical reference value is still the 50 million euro buy-out clause that Bayern once paid to Napoli, but given the player’s age – Kim is approaching 30 – and his recent inconsistent form, it is clear that this sum hardly seems realistic. FCB are said to be aiming for a transfer fee of between 35 and 40 million euros, and a one-off payment could even bring the price down towards 30 million euros
Interest appears to be particularly strong in England, with Chelsea reportedly eyeing Kim as a potential leading player for the defense. Tottenham is also repeatedly mentioned as a possible buyer to establish the South Korean alongside Micky van de Ven
A return to Serie A is also not ruled out, with former club Napoli monitoring the situation, as are Inter Milan, who are looking for additional stability in their defense.
