Diego Leon is doing really well behind the scenes, and Manchester United believe there is a big future ahead of him, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The 18-year-old left wing-back joined United this summer, but is yet to make his competitive debut.

Leon featured for Man United in pre-season, playing against Leeds United, West Ham United and Bournemouth.

However, the former Cerro Porteno youngster will have to wait for his debut, given the options available to manager Ruben Amorim on the left flank.

The Red Devils have been tipped to sign a wing-back next year, but Jacobs believes nothing is certain yet, as the club rates the teenager highly.

“I think Antonee Robinson at Fulham was looked at during the summer,” he told The United Stand.

“A profile like that, I think, is going to be the type of player, even if it’s not him specifically.

“But let’s see whether or not they move on the left-hand side because Diego Leon is doing really well, and there’s a big future ahead of him.”

His first competitive appearance in Man United colours came in a Premier League 2 outing at Liverpool last month.

He featured for the Under-21s again in the 5-2 EFL Trophy group stage defeat at Barnsley on Monday.

Leon will hope to keep doing enough to convince Amorim of his quality, but he may need to wait until the FA Cup to have a chance of making his debut.

The festive period could also allow him to finally play for the first team, as Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui may need to be rested.

Leon also has Diogo Dalot ahead of him in the pecking order at left wing-back, which makes his chances of breaking into the team slimmer.
