Leon Goretzka is on the verge of leaving FC Bayern. Numerous clubs have the 30-year-old midfielder on their radar. Real Madrid could also enter the transfer poker
It is becoming increasingly clear that Leon Goretzka’s departure is on the cards. According to consistent media reports, he no longer has any sporting prospects at FC Bayern. The 30-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and there are no concrete talks about an extension. At Säbener Straße, the focus in midfield has long been on the future – with Joshua Kimmich as a fixture and young players such as Aleksandar Pavlovic and Tom Bischof, who the club believes have a bright future
For Goretzka, this means that his time at the German record champions is coming to an end. While he only plays a minor role in Munich in sporting terms, the list of potential suitors is growing in the background. Clubs such as Juventus Turin, SSC Napoli, Galatasaray Istanbul, Tottenham Hotspur and Atlético Madrid have already been discussed. Now another European heavyweight, Real Madrid, is coming into focus

According to the Spanish portal Fichajes, those responsible at Real Madrid are keeping a very close eye on the situation surrounding Goretzka. Real are known for their targeted scouting of experienced players with expiring contracts – especially when an opportunity presents itself in terms of market strategy. Goretzka fits this bill, especially as he brings international experience, leadership qualities and a physical presence that has been lacking at times in Madrid recently
Despite highly talented midfielders such as Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni, Real have repeatedly lacked penetration and robustness in intense top matches. This is precisely where those responsible at Valdebebas see Goretzka’s greatest added value. Internally, he is not seen as a long-term project, but as an immediately deployable reinforcement for the competition in the center
As understandable as the sporting interest is, the financial side of things is complicated. Goretzka is one of the absolute top earners at FC Bayern with a rumoured annual salary of around 18 million euros. In Madrid, this dimension is met with scepticism. The club follows a strict salary structure to which even well-known newcomers have to adapt
A move to Real would therefore only be realistic if Goretzka is prepared to accept significant financial sacrifices. It is precisely at this point that it is likely to be decided whether these are merely loose explorations or a serious scenario. For the player, the fundamental question is: financial security or a new sporting start on the biggest possible stage
A move to La Liga could nevertheless have its appeal. A more tactical league, less physical strain compared to the Bundesliga and the prospect of titles and international appeal speak in favour of Real Madrid. For Leon Goretzka, it would be a chance to refocus his career – far away from Säbener Strasse, where his chapter at FC Bayern is apparently coming to an end.
