No move to Munich! DFB star turns down Bayern Munich

For months, Yann Bisseck was considered a potential candidate to bolster FC Bayern’s defense. Now, however, all signs point to the German national team player throwing a wrench in Bayern’s plans. Instead of moving to Munich, the 25-year-old is apparently on the verge of signing a long-term contract extension with Inter Milan.

In their search for another center back, Bisseck was repeatedly linked to the German record champions. His combination of athleticism, speed, and skill made the DFB pro an interesting candidate for Bayern.

However, as the Italian broadcaster Sportmediaset now reports, Inter Milan has agreed to an early contract extension with the defender.

New Inter contract instead of a move to Munich

According to the report, Bisseck is set to extend his contract—which was originally set to run through 2029—by two additional years, through 2031. This would tie the center back to the top Italian club for the long term.

Just a few weeks ago, a departure from Milan was still considered a distinct possibility. According to media reports, Inter would have been open to negotiations if an offer of around 40 million euros had been made. Clubs from the Premier League, in particular, are said to have been actively pursuing the national team player.

With the contract extension now imminent, however, this scenario appears to be off the table. A move to FC Bayern also seems highly unlikely.

Bayern will likely have to look elsewhere

On the field, Bisseck has long since established himself at Inter. After his transfer in the summer of 2023, the Cologne native worked his way up from a rotation player to a mainstay in the defense and is now one of the Nerazzurri’s key performers.

Off the field as well, the 25-year-old apparently wants to take on more responsibility. According to Sportmediaset, Bisseck reportedly emphasized during training camp that, after several years with the club, he wants to assume a leadership role in the future and, in particular, serve as a mentor to the younger players.

For FC Bayern, this development likely puts the matter to rest for the time being. Should the contract extension be officially announced as expected, the Munich club would have to look elsewhere in its search for another reinforcement for the center-back position. It remains to be seen whether Bayern will now focus its efforts on other candidates or rely on its existing roster for the time being.
