Noah Okafor could return to Switzerland duty after what Murat Yakin called a constructive conversation with the Leeds United forward, as the head coach readies his squad for next month’s friendlies with Germany and Norway.
The winger has not featured since a 3-2 Nations League defeat by Spain in November 2024, after questions were raised over his attitude during Euro 2024.
Okafor went public with his frustrations in November and drew criticism from Swiss FA director Pierluigi Tami, who said the door was open but players must understand their roles, adding he had told Okafor personally. Tami noted a difficult year at Milan and Napoli and said the federation were monitoring his form at Leeds.
“We saw a strong performance from Noah, in which he showed what he’s capable of. Afterward, we had an honest, clarifying, and constructive conversation. This is a good foundation for Noah’s potential return to the national team,” Yakin said, speaking to Blick.
Okafor heads into Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Birmingham City seeking a third straight goal, with his upturn in form coming as this summer’s World Cup finals in North America approach.
“Since then, I never spoke with the coach, not even a phone call or a message, also with the (Swiss FA’s) sporting director Pierluigi Tami. I can say it makes me sad because they don’t even text me or call me to see how I am,” he told The Athletic.
