While the recent transfer window was not the most eventful for FC Barcelona, it had its fair share of drama. La Blaugrana always remain in the market for the very best of players, but their financial restrictions also remain consistent. This time around, however, there was clearly one fan-favorite that everyone wanted at Barcelona.

That specific fan-favorite was none other than Athletic Club’s electric winger Nico Williams. After his immense Euro 2024 campaign alongside Lamine Yamal, many wanted the player to come to Barcelona and he reportedly became the club’s main desire.

However, that move ultimately did not happen and the player continues to feature for Athletic Club this season. Yet, in the most recent update provided by Fabrizio Romano, the player has come clean about what could potentially lie in the future for him:

“My heart is Bilbao, but nobody knows what will happen in the future.”

Moreover, the €70 million-rated La Liga star also highlighted that he did not mind the attention he got during the summer and thinks of it as a good thing that big teams like FC Barcelona were interested in his services:

“It’s always good when big teams want you. But I always said that I wanted to be here.”

However, he did clarify that the interest being generated in his departure was mainly from his agent and not from the player himself. He also clarified that his objective was always to play this season with Athletic Club so he could compete in Europe with them:

“If there was anything, it was from my agent. But I wanted to play in Europe with Bilbao.”
