Rennes beat Toulouse 1-0 at Roazhon Park as Arnaud Nordin's first half header secured a third straight Ligue 1 win and lifted the hosts to fifth.
Nordin struck with a glancing header in the 27th minute, guiding his effort into the top right after sustained pressure from the left flank.
Brice Samba preserved the lead with a late stop, tipping away Charlie Cresswell's close-range header in the second minute of second half stoppage time. Earlier, the goalkeeper had dealt with Emersonn's drive from distance after the restart.
Franck Haise turned to his bench as Rennes tightened control, introducing Djaoui Cissé and Ludovic Blas (73.). Breel Embolo added fresh legs up front (81.).
Rennes controlled long spells of possession at 65.1%, moving the ball crisply through midfield. They also forced six corners to keep Toulouse pinned back.
Rennes visit Nice next. Toulouse travel to Marseille in the Coupe de France next.
