Norwich City skipper Grant Hanley admits the players were upset for the fans after their relegation was confirmed in defeat to Aston Villa.
His team's 2-0 defeat to Villa saw Norwich relegated.
Hanley said, “It is obviously still pretty raw. You are walking off the pitch disappointed with the result and then you get the news that you are relegated. It is difficult to find the words to explain how we are feeling. We are gutted."
Grant, who along with many player went to applaud the visiting supporters at the final whistle, added: “Since I have been at the club, they (the fans) have been outstanding. Every single week home and away they are there for us. I am disappointed for them that us, the players on the pitch, couldn't give them what we feel like they deserve.
“The emotion of today and the confirmation of relegation is a tough one to take but there is still points to play for and pride to play for and I think that is up to the lads in the dressing room to show that; show the commitment to the club and show that desire when we are on the pitch."
