After sacking David Wagner in the aftermath of their play-off defeat, Norwich City moved swiftly to appoint Danish manager Johannes Hoff Thorup from FC Nordsjælland.

It's fair to say that Thorup is a bit of an unknown quantity in this country, but on paper it looks like a decent appointment for the Canaries, with the Danishman leading Nordsjælland to a second place finish in the 2022/23 Superliga, subsequently qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

The 35-year-old is young for a manager, but appears to be someone who can help the Canaries build over the next couple of seasons and find an identity, something which the club perhaps lacked during Wagner's tenure.

His appointment also may spell good news for certain young players, with Sporting Director Ben Knapper labelling the Dane as a "proven developer", which means he'll likely be willing to give young players a chance.

With Johannes Hoff Thorup being dubbed a "proven developer", it should mean good news for Abu Kamara and his chances of making a first-team breakthrough next season.

The 20-year-old winger joined Portsmouth on loan for the 2023/24 season, and he impressed, becoming one of John Mousinho's standout players, and helping the club win the League One title.

In total, Kamara made 52 appearances for Pompey, scoring 10 goals and registering 11 assists, and he's surely done enough to warrant a place in Norwich City's plans next season.

With developing players, and embedding youth into the first-team one of Thorup's main selling points, Kamara should be excited about the Dane's appointment, and will be hoping that he'll get chances to make a name for himself at Carrow Road next season.

Playing 52 games of first-team football at Pompey last season would have been a huge benefit to Kamara's career, and will stand him in good stead for next season.

There's no doubt that his form at Pompey warrants a chance, and Thorup should be looking at how to get the best out of him next season.

With uncertainty over Jon Rowe's future at Norwich with the likes of Tottenham interested in him in January, Kamara could be a ready-made replacement, and just needs a chance.

The Canaries appointing a young, progressive manager who's willing to give youth a chance should be music to the ears of Abu Kamara, and it's up to him to impress when given the opportunity.

Johannes Hoff Thorup is an exciting appointment by Norwich City

Whilst he may not be a big name, Johannes Hoff Thorup is an exciting appointment, and could turn out to be a hidden gem.

David Wagner did a decent job in taking Norwich City to the play-offs, but he never won over the club's fanbase, and seemed to lack a long-term plan of how he wanted to play.

Thorup has developed an identity in Denmark, and did well enough at Nordsjælland to earn a move to England.

Championship clubs have had some recent success with appointing lesser known managers from Europe, with Marti Cifuentes and Danny Rohl making huge impacts at QPR and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Wagner never felt like a long-term solution at Carrow Road, and despite reaching the play-offs it was clear that it was the right time to make a change.

Thorup's Nordsjælland side showed what they were capable of in the Conference League this season, and despite not qualifying from their group, they beat Turkish giants Fernerbahce 6-1 in a shock result which made everybody take notice.

The appointment of Thorup seems a shrewd move for Norwich City, and it could spell very good news for Abu Kamara.
