Norwich City have had a rough season so far, but with the January window right around the corner, the Canaries will be desperate for the new year to tick over so they can conduct some January business to rejuvenate the squad.

Norwich have struggled this campaign, which has been clear for everyone to see, languishing in the relegation zone after 18 games. But having won their first home game of the season at the weekend, beating Queens Park Rangers 3-1, City fans will be heading into the new week feeling slightly more optimistic.

Liam Manning's appointment from Bristol City did not go to plan to say the least, with the former MK Dons boss being dismissed after just 17 fixtures for the club, but tasting victory in three, whilst failing to pick up a single point at home prior to his dismissal.

Former Monaco and Rangers boss Philippe Clement was appointed as his replacement

Clement has chosen to deploy a 4-2-3-1 system since his arrival, with Manning having utilised a 3-4-3 formation on occasion during his time at the helm, and the lack of wingers in the squad has not done the Belgian any favours, who will make his priorities clear to sporting director Ben Knapper this January.

Football League World's Norwich fan pundit, Zeke, has predicted that the one thing that is almost certain to happen at Carrow Road this January window is the arrival of a winger.

Zeke said, "I think that we will 100% sign a winger.

"I thought that anyway, because there was no way they could have a whole transfer window and not sign a winger, because of how many injuries and whatever that we have.

"We've also just got players out on the wing that aren't wingers, like Makama, even like Schwartau, Forson, and Kvistgaarden.

"So yeah, I think now with this new shape, the 4-2-3-1, I think they are definitely going to want to have another winger, at least one. Knapper even mentioned it as well, in his interviews recently.

"So, I'm not sure. They will be looking for at least one or two wingers, which will be exciting, because we need players that can beat their defender, have a bit of pace, put some balls into the box, and make some stuff happen."

Philippe Clement is expected to have a winger high on his shopping list at Norwich City this January window

With Clement favouring a 4-2-3-1 shape, wingers are essential to the system.

Each of Oscar Schwartau, Forson Amankwah, and Jovon Makama have deputised out wide since the Belgian arrived at Carrow Road, though none are wingers by trade.

Norwich have been ravaged by injuries this campaign, with long-term injuries throughout the squad, with the likes of Papa Diallo, Ante Crnac, and Jeffrey Schlupp all spending time in the treatment room this season, who can each play on the wing.

Norwich undoubtedly have some talent in their squad, reflective of the £50 million they have spent under the watch of sporting director Ben Knapper over the past couple of seasons, but for one reason or another, it has yet to click.

Clement may well be tempted to delve into the market in the upcoming window for a new winger, as he aims to steer the Canaries away from the threat of relegation.
