Norwich City could be set to add to their attacking options before the transfer window closes, with towering Dutch striker Jay Enem on their radar.

The Canaries finally got their Championship season up and running this weekend with a dominant 4-1 victory over Burnley at Carrow Road, which came after back-to-back defeats by West Brom and Millwall.

Given their form last season under Philippe Clement following his appointment after the sacking of Liam Manning, Norwich are expected to be promotion contenders, especially with goal threats such as Mohamed Toure, Andre Brooks and, when fit, Jovon Makama.

Mathias Kvistgaarden, Anthony Musaba and Oscar Schwartau will also be eyeing up goals for the Norfolk outfit, but will City sign one more striker before the transfer window slams shut on September 1?

With Makama - who was mightily impressive in the Championship last season after his move from Lincoln City - still nursing a foot injury, more fire-power may be needed, and as per Italian reporter Luca Bendoni, the club are in pole position to sign Jay Enem on loan.

It's an unexpected deal in the sense that Enem is actually on the verge of making a permanent transfer move to Italian Serie A outfit Bologna, per the same report, for €6 million from Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade.

When that transfer happens though, Bologna are looking to loan the 23-year-old Dutchman out for more regular minutes, and Norwich are said to be at the front of that particular queue in the final days of the window.

Jay Enem is already making a permanent transfer before Norwich eye a loan swoop

Enem, who stands at a towering 6ft 5in, spent time in the Ajax youth setup as a teenager, but he had his big senior breakout last season, when playing for both OEK Beograd and Red Star in the Serbian Super Liga.

Signing for the former on a free transfer from Venezia last summer, Enem then joined Red Star halfway on loan through the season thanks to his form, and that turned into a permanent switch at the start of the summer, having bagged 15 goals in 28 appearances across both clubs.

That form has alerted Bologna seemingly to his services, with a €6 million (£5.1 million) agreement said to be reached with Red Star for his services.

But with Roberto Piccolo and Artem Dovbyk the current options in a lone striker system, Bologna boss Domenico Tedesco does not yet need Enem's services, meaning a loan deal may serve him best for the remainder of the season so he can continue to develop.

Do Norwich City need Jay Enem at Carrow Road?

With how prolific Mo Toure was after his move from Randers in January, coupled with the impact of Makama, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Norwich and Clement could very much do without another striker.

The aforementioned Kvistgaarden also cost a pretty penny last summer too from Brondby, although he could easily play in the 10 role if asked, but looking at it when everyone's fit, Norwich seem to have enough individuals for a one-striker system.

Given his towering height though, Enem could provide something different that Clement does not possess within his squad, and given he won 56 per cent of his Serbian Super Liga aerial duels last season, the Dutchman would perhaps give a physical, in the air type of striker outlet that isn't currently on offer.

Things may change and Norwich may not stay in 'pole position' for his services, but Enem is a name to watch in the final few days of the window.
