FLW's Norwich fan pundit shares their thoughts on whether the club should look to sign Sam Field permanently this summer

It's been a season of two halves for Norwich City, whose supporters will be breathing many sighs of relief that they don't find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle this campaign, after it looked almost certain that it would be the case previously.

The beginning of the 2025/26 season couldn't have started much worse for Norwich, with Liam Manning's tenure going nearly as badly as it possibly could have gone.

With just three wins in 17 games, Manning was dismissed from his post and replaced by Belgian boss Philippe Clement, and since the former Monaco and Rangers' boss's arrival, their form has seen a huge improvement, as has their standings in the league table.

The January window, like for many other clubs across the EFL and the continent, is a key part of the season to make the necessary changes to prepare squads for the remaining fixtures that season.

Both Borja Sainz and Marcelino Nunez left the club in the summer, the latter controversially to bitter rivals Ipswich Town, and neither was sufficiently replaced, leaving Clement with a lot of work to do with little margin for error.

The likes of Ali Ahmed, Mohamed Toure, Paris Maghoma, and Harry Amass all made the move to Carrow Road in the winter, and, aside from Amass, who has suffered a season-ending injury, have all made a positive impact.

However, the loan deal Norwich struck with Queens Park Rangers could arguably prove to be their best piece of business, especially if they can turn it permanent in the summer.

Sam Field joined Norwich City on loan from Queens Park Rangers this January

QPR midfielder Sam Field made the move from West London to Norfolk this January on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The West Bromwich Albion academy product featured sporadically for the R's under Julien Stephan in the first half of the campaign, and was allowed to make the move to their division rivals as a result.

Since his move, Field has become a valued member of the Canaries' midfield under Clement and has been touted for a permanent switch to the club this summer.

Football League World's Norwich fan pundit, Zeke, has shared their views on whether they would like to see Field make the move to Carrow Road permanently this summer after a successful loan spell so far.

Zeke said: "I would definitely be interested in getting Sam Field in on a permanent deal, because he has slotted in really nicely.

"He has a nice amount of experience, he's pretty good as an all-round midfielder. So yeah, I think it's a pretty risk-free transfer. He wouldn't be a lot of money, but then there's the risk that when signing permanently, he might drop off as a lot of players have done in the past.

"I still think it would be worth doing that because McLean, although he's still very, very useful, and he's a key part of our team, is only getting older, so we will need to have people replace him.

"We've got Mattsson, Wright and Topic when he's back. So I think that's a really good group of midfielders there. But I would look to get him in on a permanent deal."

Philippe Clement should look to strike permanent Norwich City deal for Sam Field this summer with QPR

Since his inaugural move to English football with Norwich, Clement has shown his excellence as a coach and completely turned the club's fortunes around.Despite their injury woes and the Josh Sargent transfer saga, Clement has managed to guide Norwich back up the Championship table and away from the threat of relegation, with his January transfer business proving pivotal in the success.Field has become a key cog of the Belgian's midfield and the club's subsequent form, and the club should look to bring him to the club on a permanent deal this summer if possible.

Due to turn 28 at the end of the season, Field is entering his prime years as a player, and could prove to be an invaluable piece of business should Norwich strike a deal with the R's.
