The former Manchester United midfielder has had a reasonably successful first season in management, guiding a perhaps limited Hornets squad to a mid-table finish.

This is said to have attracted the attention of the Canaries, who, in truth, underperformed under Thorup, falling short of the play-offs despite an expensively assembled squad after finishing sixth last season.

According to The Sun, Carrow Road could offer Cleverley a more "stable environment", in contrast to Watford, who are well known for their 'hire and fire' approach. The 35-year-old Watford manager is the only head coach out of their last 13 to successfully complete a year at the helm.

With this potential step to the Canaries in mind, Football League World have taken a look at Tom Cleverley's Watford win percentage.

Tom Cleverley was initially appointed as caretaker manager in March of last season and, after just one defeat in his first seven games, he was handed the full-time role in April.

Since then, he has taken charge of 51 matches, and the start of this campaign suggested he might guide his side into the play-offs, having won their opening three games.

However, those hopes have faded over the course of the season, with Cleverley’s team embodying inconsistency - struggling to put a run of wins together. In fact, since a 6-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in November, they have managed successive wins on just one occasion.

They now sit 13th in the table, with a fixture against Sheffield Wednesday set to conclude their campaign on Saturday.

In total, Cleverley’s 58 games in charge - including his spell as caretaker - have yielded 20 wins, 13 draws and 25 defeats, giving him a points-per-game average of 1.26.

His 20 wins from 58 fixtures give him a win percentage of 34%, providing a victory every three games for Hornets supporters.

Watford boss Tom Cleverley could fit the bill for Norwich City

Norwich's underachievement and subsequent sacking of Thorup would immediately suggest that Cleverley would arrive at Carrow Road with an expectation of more than mid-table.

The Canaries' recent history of second-tier success hasn't shifted under new sporting director Ben Knapper and the 35-year-old would have to meet the targets set out by his seniors.

However, his youthful outlook aligns well with Norwich's current style, and it seems like a good fit for both parties. Cleverley is a manager who can adapt his approach to suit the needs of the club. At the Canaries, it’s clear that they are aiming for a front-footed, possession-based style of play, and that is something he has been able to implement at Vicarage Road.

Of course, his win percentage of 34% and a points-per-game average of 1.26 will need to improve if he makes the move. However, with greater backing, this is certainly achievable.

Cleverley has shown enough promise during his brief managerial stint so far, and a step-up to Norwich could provide the opportunity to elevate his development to the next level.
