Norwich City should plot transfer move for former Canary Harrison Reed from Fulham

Norwich City's 2-1 defeat over the weekend to Middlesbrough perhaps exposed a flaw in their midfield unit that needs addressing - and it could be fixed by a former Canaries player.

New signing Mirko Topic seems to have cemented his place in Liam Manning's side early on this season, and he has been partnered by both Marcelino Nunez and teenager Jacob Wright.

However, Chile international Nunez is now injured and Wright is set to start a three-match ban, showing perhaps his lack of experience with an over-the-ball challenge on Aidan Morris to get himself sent off against Boro.

Having played less than 20 games in the EFL, Wright could be a worry at times for Norwich as the season progresses, and they may need some more experience in midfield, although 33-year-old Kenny McLean is also an option for Manning.

Harrison Reed should be a Norwich City transfer target - he's already had a stint with Canaries

30-year-old midfielder Harrison Reed has been a key part of Fulham's side since his arrival at Craven Cottage in 2019, but with game-time dwindling, he should perhaps pursue a Championship move at this stage of his career.

His wealth of experience from his time spent in the top-flight as well as the Championship has given him the reputation of being a reliable player at the heart of midfield.

Known for his composure on the ball as well as strength in tackles, despite being 5ft 9in, Reed has had a successful career up to this point, having made over 120 appearances in both the Premier League and Championship.

The stability he has provided to Fulham's side over the past six seasons has not gone unnoticed. However, after merely featuring in 12 league games last year for the Cottagers, regular game time for Reed may be looking unlikely this season.

With 1st September soon around the corner marking the closure of the transfer window, Reed's former club, Norwich City, should plot a move for the midfielder as they strive for a return to the top-flight, and having spent a season at Carrow Road in the 2017/18 campaign, Reed is no stranger to life in Norfolk.

The 30-year-old made 39 league appearances for the Canaries that season, where he scored one goal and provided three assists. Including a screamer in a 2-0 win against QPR.

A potential move back to his old club in the form of a loan deal or permanent transfer would be good business for all parties as Reed would receive more game time, and Norwich could benefit from his expertise in the midfield alongside new signing Topic.

Norwich City fans would love a Harrison Reed return

Having already been a part of the fixtures and fittings at the club, Reed would be more than welcomed back to Carrow Road.

His maturity and proven ability to break up the play and get on the front foot could be just what Norwich need to compliment Topic, who is known for his bullish style of play.

Reed has played next to the likes of Joao Palhinha at Fulham, who shares similarities with Topic. Therefore, his tactical discipline to act as the 'box-to-box' midfielder for Manning in a midfield two could prove to be a transfer to propel Norwich's season in the right direction.

His high energy and dynamic nature would make Reed a quality signing for Norwich who can not only benefit from his attributes on the pitch, but his familiarity of the club too would make him a leader in the group.
