Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has rejected speculation over the club’s finances, denying claims that Victor Osimhen and team-mates are owed wages.
According to Turkish-Football.com, the 76-year-old said the club have not missed a single lira in payments and that bonuses are processed on time.
The rumours followed local reports that the Nigeria forward had gone up to three months without pay, and intensified after muted celebrations, including a restrained winner against Juventus in the Champions League. Osimhen said that reaction was a mark of respect for their manager, Luciano Spalletti, his former mentor during Napoli’s title-winning season.
Özbek described the talk as an insult to the players’ professionalism, arguing elite footballers would not take the pitch if unpaid.
Despite the noise, Okan Buruk’s side top the Süper Lig with a four-point cushion over Fenerbahçe. They are into the Champions League Round of 16 for the first time in over a decade to face Liverpool, and are preparing for a Turkish Cup tie with Alanyaspor.
Osimhen has 10 league goals and seven in Europe this season. He is expected to be rested for the cup match, with staff reportedly prioritising his fitness for the weekend derby against Beşiktaş.
