Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been speaking about Xabi Alonso, the new Chelsea coach who started brightly but has had some bad results.

“When you are at a big club, and you lose matches, there’s always going to be talk. But I think that Chelsea will have a lot of patience with Alonso, and I think they should have a lot of patience as well,” the former Chelsea striker said.

“So, no. Alonso’s future should not even be a conversation at this moment.”

We’re not actually sure who has been putting his future in any doubt – we guess it’s a three week international break, so there’s bound to be idle chatter. While we’re disappointed with a lot of what we’ve seen, our long term hopes haven’t really been dimmed. We still struggle to think of a coach we would trade Alonso for, let alone we might realistically get.

It might not work out, but he appears to be one of the best and brightest young coaches around, and given how hard it has been for any coach to get the best out of this squad, we’re a long way from putting much blame on the new man.
