Patrick Dorgu has sustained a hamstring injury and is now expected to miss around 10 weeks of action for Manchester United.

The news was first confirmed by Laurie Whitwell, after which BBC Sport’s Simon Stone added that it’s ‘not good news for Man United’, even though the full-back will undergo more scans to determine the severity of the problem.

While all injuries are untimely and frustrating, this one hits particularly deep for United due to the scintillating form Dorgu had been in.

Over the last couple of months, he had overseen his best performances since signing for the club 12 months ago, and since December 21, he had returned three goals and two assists.

*Dorgu’s record in the league this season

Dorgu’s tremendous displays came after he had begun operating in a more advanced, attacking position on the wing. What’s more, he found the back of the net in the last two outings as United recorded unexpected triumphs against the top two in the league, Manchester City and Arsenal.

His strike in the latter will undoubtedly have him in contention to win Goal of the Season – even aside from the unbelievable finish, his link-up play with Bruno Fernandes beforehand made the move even more easy on the eye.

What games might Dorgu be back for?

Assuming the 21-year-old returns at the start of April as anticipated, he could be back at Michael Carrick’s disposal for the home clash against rivals Leeds United on April 11, which is followed by a trip to Stamford Bridge the following week.

By that time, the meeting with Chelsea could be absolutely pivotal in the top-four race, with the sides currently sitting only one point apart after 23 matches.

United also host Liverpool on May 2, whose quest to defend their title has seen them reduced to trying to secure any form of European football for 2026/2027.
