Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel says that the club’s owners will soon realise that they messed up.
Mikel has often been one of the most critical voices pointing towards the new ownership since they took over at the club, but he is far from alone with his opinions and in fact, many Chelsea fans also share them.
Chelsea are in a bit of a sticky situation already in the League after only six games player, and the last four games have really been ones for forget for Enzo Maresca’s side.
They’re also now in a real injury crisis as well, and Maresca has named three more players who could miss tonight’s Champions League match against a Jose Mourinho managed Benfica.
Mourinho spoke to the media last night ahead of the game and he was actually suggesting that Chelsea are now back on track under Maresca.
Jon Obi Mikel passionate about Chelsea struggles.
Speaking on Chelsea’s defeat against Brighton and why that happened….
“Inexperience. I think that’s what you can conclude. Looking back at the game, it’s another stupid, needless mistake,” the former Nigeria captain said on the Obi One Podcast.
“We’ve said it so many times, we needed to strengthen at the back, a striker to tick the box, a centre-back and a goalkeeper. They’ll probably look at it at the end of the season and realise they messed up.
“Our defence is nowhere good enough to win the Premier League. It’s impossible. I’ll say that again, we’re not close with the backline that we have.
“Going forward, we can score goals, we can create chances, we’re brilliant, but Colwill’s absence is telling at the back. There’s no one to cover for him because of his injury.
“We’re so weak in that position, and now, Chalobah is set to miss the game against Liverpool. We’re not in a good place. Strikers win you games, and defenders win you titles.
“We will struggle. Once we go down to ten men, there’s not much you can do again. Eight points from six games. We’ve given away too many red cards. Not good enough.”
