The Gers have not had the best start to their Scottish Premiership campaign this season, with two draws in their opening two games, due to which they are already four points behind their city rivals Celtic.

Russell Martin has brought in a host of players but their business is far from being done as they are still looking to add a striker and a centre-back.

Although they have brought in Nasser Djiga and Emmanuel Fernandez to strengthen their backline, they have their eyes set on Real Betis star Mendy.

Rangers entered into the race for the centre-back’s signature with Rayo Vallecano on his trail and Mendy chose Rangers and went into exclusive discussions regarding a future move.

The Scottish giants were quick to sort out a transfer fee with Betis which is in the region of €3m, after receiving the nod from Mendy’s camp on a four-year deal.

And now all that remains for Rangers is to give the player a medical and complete the signing.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Mendy’s medical is ‘not in Scotland’ and will instead take place in Barcelona.

Betis have managed to agree a sell-on clause during their negotiations with Rangers for Mendy which will see them receive a 20 per cent fee from his future transfer.

Rangers will face Viktoria Plzen tonight in their Champions League qualifier second leg and Martin will likely want Mendy to be available for their next game against Alloa Athletic in the Scottish League Cup on Saturday.

Rangers are also looking at Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Dor Turgeman as a striker option and they are being rivalled by New England Revolution .
