Dayot Upamecano is surprisingly not in the FC Bayern squad against FC St. Pauli and the club have now announced why the French international will not be involved
Dayot Upamecano has been a regular starter for Bayern in recent months. The 27-year-old is considered the defensive leader under coach Vincent Kompany and it is hard to imagine the team without him. The centre-back was expected to be in the starting eleven on Saturday afternoon, but has now surprisingly been left out. The club issued a statement on the matter
FC Bayern wrote on X: „The French international defender will be given a break due to load management.“ Minjae Kim has replaced the French international in the starting eleven. The South Korean will line up alongside Jonathan Tah

Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl was asked about Upamecno’s absence on the Sky microphone. The 52-year-old explained: „It’s nothing serious, but we want to look at the strain. He’s played a lot and Dayot is a player who is very physical. He’s slightly banged up, but not a problem for Wednesday.“
Munich face Union Berlin away in the DFB Cup next Wednesday evening (8:45pm), having dropped points against the Köpenickers in the Bundesliga (2:2)
Upamecano and Tah are considered a well-coordinated centre-back duo at FC Bayern. Minjae Kim has slipped out of the starting eleven since Tah’s arrival. Although the South Korean international has made 13 appearances this season, he has mostly made brief appearances. He has played a total of 546 minutes to date. He was already considered a candidate for sale last summer, but ultimately remained with Bayern. Upamecano’s future is also uncertain – the defender’s contract expires next summer.
