‘Not many better’ – Alonso backs Rogers and Palmer partnership to lift Chelsea | OneFootball

Xabi Alonso says he is excited by the potential of the partnership between record signing Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer.

The two Chelsea forwards played together as youngsters at Manchester City and have been reunited again following the Blues’ £117m signing of Rogers from Aston Villa.

And Chelsea boss Alonso believes the two will complement each other well. 

“I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see them linking really well,” Alonso said.

“We need to have a good mix. If we get that balance right and those special players in the right positions with good control, then we will be more competitive with the ball and against the ball.”

Alonso also spoke of his delight at getting a deal for Rogers over the line amid competition from the likes of Arsenal.

“For sure it’s a great signing,” he said.

“In that position we needed an important player and I’m sure there were not many more better options than Morgan Rogers. 

“It means a lot for everyone and for the players that are already here as well, they have a good feeling and we’re looking forward to having him in a few weeks.”
