Lazio are reportedly keeping close tabs on River Plate teenager Ian Subiabre, who appears destined to play his football in Europe sooner rather than later.
The Biancocelesti have been monitoring several young profiles in Argentina, especially defenders. Earlier reports this week indicated four centre-backs who are on the club’s watchlist, and chief among them is Lautaro Rivero, a 22-year-old River Plate defender who is also wanted at Lazio.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are seriously interested in Rivero, considering him an alternative for Diogo Leite, whose requested salary could be too high for Claudio Lotito’s liking.
Therefore, the Biancocelesti may instead invest in a younger profile who should be available for circa €10 million. The left-footed defender would effectively be Alessio Romagnoli’s heir, at least if he can beat competition from Oliver Provstgaard.
The Roman newspaper reveals that Rivero isn’t the only River Plate up-and-comer wanted at Lazio, as Ian Subiabre is also on the shortlist. The 19-year-old is a winger who rose through Los Millonarios’ ranks and has been a member of the first team since 2024.
Subiabre’s current contract runs until December 2028, and Transfermarkt estimates his value at €3.5 million. This season, he has become a regular starter for River Plate, making 14 appearances across all competitions and contributing with one goal and assists.
The Argentina U20 international is left-footed and often plays as an inverted right winger, but he can also occupy various roles in the final third. Therefore, Lazio might consider him a replacement for either Gustav Isaksen or Matteo Cancellieri, should either one leave in the summer.
