Celebrations were still ongoing after Barcelona secured the La Liga title, but behind the smiles and celebrations, the club already appears focused on moving forward without Robert Lewandowski.

During a dinner event in Castelldefels organised to celebrate the league triumph, Barcelona sporting director Deco spoke about the Polish striker’s departure and the massive challenge the club now faces in replacing him.

It must be noted that Lewandowski was honoured by both the club and his teammates during the evening, recognising the impact he made during his spell in Catalonia.

Deco admits Barcelona face huge problem

Shortly afterwards, Deco addressed the media and admitted that finding another striker capable of matching the veteran forward’s influence will not be easy.

Speaking about the departure of the experienced striker, Deco highlighted both Lewandowski’s quality and the gap he leaves behind inside the squad.

“Today is a bit of a sad day because Robert’s departure is now confirmed; it’s almost impossible to replace Robert.

“He’s been the best striker of recent years, and everything he’s done at Barça over the years is very difficult to replace, but that’s the way football is.

“Ferran came in as a winger and has turned into a ‘number 9’, but now is the time to make decisions and start strengthening the team,” said the former player.

So what next?

The Barcelona director was naturally questioned about potential replacements.

Names such as Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro were mentioned, especially with the club expected to enter the market for a new attacker this summer.

However, Deco avoided discussing any specific targets publicly.

“It’s not a question of profile. We’re not ruling anyone out, nor are we signing anyone,” said Deco.

He also remained cautious when asked about Barcelona’s financial fair play situation and whether the club would be operating under the 1:1 spending rule during the transfer window.

“These are internal matters; what we have to ensure is that we’ll work as we do every year.

“We’ve lost a very important player in Robert and, of course, we’re going to try to strengthen the team,” he concluded.
