Nottingham Forest are working on a left-back before tonight’s deadline as they chase a third signing of the window.
Fabrizio Romano reports that an agreement has been reached with Borussia Monchengladbach for Luca Netz on a fee of £two million, plus add-ons and a sell-on clause. The Athletic says a medical is taking place before he signs a four-and-a-half-year contract, with a minimal outlay possible as he was due to be a free agent in the summer.
On Sunday, Forest confirmed Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan from Arsenal had been cut short after a limited impact, and he has now linked up with Ajax.
His exit leaves the back line short of cover. Ola Aina and Neco Williams are first-choice at right and left-back respectively, both able to play on either side. The club also want a striker and a midfielder before the cut-off.
Head coach Sean Dyche is awaiting news on the severity of summer signing Nicolo Savona’s injury. Williams will miss Friday’s trip to Leeds United through suspension after his red card in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
Netz joined Monchengladbach five years ago after progressing through Hertha Berlin’s ranks. The 22-year-old has represented Germany at multiple age-group levels, including the Under-21s.
So far this window Forest have added two players, striker Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Napoli and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega from Manchester City on Sunday.
