Nottingham Forest are waiting to learn the extent of Jair Cunha’s injury after the 1-0 Europa League defeat to Midtjylland, with Fulham visiting on Sunday. His involvement is uncertain.

Nottingham Post reports that the centre-back had been cleared to play despite missing Wednesday’s training due to an unspecified issue. He appeared to roll his ankle and was withdrawn after five minutes at the City Ground.

Head coach Vitor Pereira said he did not know the problem with Jair’s foot, called the early change a pity, and stressed Forest must be ready to fight with or without him.

Forest passed up several chances in the first leg, before Cho Guesung’s header on 80 minutes left them chasing the tie. The second leg is in Denmark next Thursday.

Pereira had selected a strong XI aiming to control the game and make four substitutions around 60 minutes if it was going their way. As heavy rain arrived and a goal was needed, he kept Elliot Anderson, Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus on rather than stick to the plan.

Balancing Europe and the league, he pointed to the energy shown against Manchester City after three days’ rest and said he believes Forest can compete again against Fulham in three days. He added they will then reassess their approach to the Midtjylland return, and accept that they either progress or focus solely on the Premier League.
