Nottingham Forest are waiting to learn how long they will be without full-back Nicolo Savona, with Sean Dyche confirming he will miss Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace, two pm kick-off.
He was an unused substitute in the 2-0 win at Brentford, then did not train before Thursday’s Europa League tie with Ferencvaros and sat out the game. According to Nottingham Post, he saw a specialist earlier in the week and a decision on treatment is still to come.
Dyche said the next five to seven days will be a settling period, after which the club will decide whether any intervention is required. He described it as nothing too drastic, but it could keep Savona out for a spell, with further clarity expected next week.
Full-back is an area Forest will look to strengthen before the January window closes on Monday. Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan from Arsenal is expected to be cut short, and fellow summer signing Cuiabano could also move on before the deadline. Neco Williams and Ola Aina are first-choice, and Forest have been credited with an interest in Napoli’s Mathias Olivera.
The lack of cover was evident in midweek as centre-back Zach Abbott filled in at right-back during the 4-0 win, helping secure a clean sheet.
Palace begin a significant run in the fight for Premier League survival, followed by matches against Leeds United and rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers. Forest remain without long-term absentee Chris Wood, with Dyche saying the New Zealand striker is making steady progress after knee surgery.
