Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town in a deal worth £37.5m, a transfer that underlines the club’s ambition to strengthen significantly before the new campaign begins. As reported by Sky Sports, Forest had an opening £35m bid rejected before returning with an improved offer that secured one of the most exciting young talents in English football.
Hutchinson arrives at the City Ground after a standout spell with Ipswich, where he first impressed on loan from Chelsea before making the move permanent last summer. The 21-year-old played a key role in Ipswich’s promotion to the Premier League and has since developed into a highly regarded forward, admired for his pace, energy and ability to unlock defences.

The winger has already spoken of his excitement at joining Forest and the opportunity to play at the City Ground. “I’m really excited to be here and can’t wait to get started,” said Hutchinson. “I’ve played at the City Ground a few times and it’s always felt like a hostile atmosphere, so I’m looking forward to playing here with the fans behind us. I’m going to give it my all and I’m looking forward to the challenge as it’s a new chapter for me, but I feel ready.”
His comments will resonate with Forest supporters who value commitment as much as quality. Hutchinson’s willingness to embrace the pressure of the club’s passionate fanbase suggests he is ready for the responsibility that comes with such a significant move.
Hutchinson may not be the final arrival this summer. Forest are working on at least three more signings to bolster Nuno Espírito Santo’s options. James McAtee is expected to complete a £30m move from Manchester City after undergoing a medical, while Stade Rennais striker Arnaud Kalimuendo is also close to joining in a deal worth up to £25m.
The club are additionally pursuing former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, currently with Juventus, in what would be another major coup. Meanwhile, Callum Hudson-Odoi has verbally agreed terms on a new deal that will keep him at the City Ground, adding stability to the squad.
Forest’s summer has already seen notable activity. Dan Ndoye, Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha have been added to the squad, while the biggest outgoing came in the £55m sale of Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United. The loss of Elanga was significant, but Hutchinson’s arrival, coupled with further anticipated deals, points towards a squad refresh designed to provide balance, energy and depth.
Pre-season has been difficult, with Forest scoring only once in seven matches, but the influx of new signings could reinvigorate both performances and confidence. With Brentford visiting the City Ground on Sunday, Nuno will be keen to see his latest recruit inspire a turnaround in fortunes.

Hutchinson has the attributes to make an immediate impact in the Premier League. His direct running, technical ability and work ethic will complement Forest’s attacking style, while his experience of adapting quickly at Ipswich demonstrates a maturity beyond his years. For £37.5m, Forest have secured a player capable of becoming a long-term fixture in their future plans.
For Nottingham Forest supporters, Hutchinson’s arrival feels like a statement. Spending £37.5m on a 21-year-old shows the club’s commitment to building a squad with both immediate impact and long-term growth. Fans who watched Ipswich’s rise last season know Hutchinson brings dynamism, flair and the hunger to prove himself at the highest level.
The fact that he has spoken so warmly about the City Ground atmosphere matters. Forest fans value connection, and Hutchinson’s acknowledgement of that bond is a strong first step. His words about giving his all will carry weight, especially given the recent sale of Anthony Elanga. Supporters want to see replacements not only in terms of quality but also in spirit, and Hutchinson ticks both boxes.
The wider transfer activity is also encouraging. James McAtee and Arnaud Kalimuendo would add creativity and finishing power, while Douglas Luiz would provide much-needed midfield authority. The new contract for Callum Hudson-Odoi suggests that the club are determined to retain core talents while adding depth.
There is a sense that Forest are evolving under Nuno, moving away from the instability of past windows and towards a more strategic build. Hutchinson represents that vision: young, ambitious and ready to grow with the club. Supporters will now be eager to see him make his debut and spark the attack into life.
