Nottingham Forest will delay a formal tribute to Elliot Anderson after confirming his record £116 million transfer to Manchester City. Recognition is planned for a later date while he focuses on England at the World Cup.
The club said in a statement that the remaining formalities will be completed in due course, allowing the 23-year-old to concentrate on representing England. He has completed a medical in Kansas.
The move ends his two years at the City Ground and makes him the most expensive English player in history, eclipsing Arsenal's £105m deal for Declan Rice. Thomas Tuchel's side face Mexico in the last 16 at 1am BST on Monday.
Forest signed Anderson from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024 for a net £15m, paying £35m with goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos going the other way for £20m.
He swiftly became integral for Forest and developed into an England regular. The club will now assess options to reinforce central midfield.
